Family-fun event aimed to raise money for Drug Free DeSoto
DeSoto County Leadership Class 14 plans to host a family-friendly cornhole tournament to benefit Drug Free DeSoto.
The “Family Tailgate Toss” event will take place April 13, 1 to 4 p.m., at the Mosaic Arena, 2450 N.E. Roan St., in Arcadia, FL, and feature the cornhole tournament, as well as a variety of vendors, food trucks, bounce houses and other activities for children.
Cash prizes – amount to be determined – will be awarded to the top three teams, as well as trophies that will shine in any family room!
Leadership DeSoto is a program through the DeSoto County Chamber of Commerce, seeking to educate, challenge and develop a select group of leaders who live or work in the county.
Class 14 hopes to raise at least $22,000 through sponsorships. All proceeds will help Drug Free DeSoto purchase a mobile “Hidden in Plain Sight” simulated bedroom in the form of a van.
“The simulated bedroom will serve as a hands-on tool to educate parents, teachers and community members about the subtle ways in which children may hide drugs, alcohol, and tobacco in plain sight,” Drug Free DeSoto Coalition Coordinator Heather Fugate said.
Fugate believes “an informed community is better equipped to address the challenges faced by our youth, and your support would play a crucial role in making this initiative a reality.
“We are confident that this project aligns with your organization’s commitment to promoting education, health, and community well-being.”
The cornhole tournament will include teams sponsored by local businesses and organizations, as well as individual teams wanting to participate.
Sponsored teams will be provided customized cornhole boards. The boards were built and provided by the DeSoto County High School woodshop class. Each board will also feature the team sponsor’s logo.
For sponsorship, there is also a “Fun Zone” option of $750 for one team, one set of branded cornhole boards and two shirts, no logo. There is an award sponsor option of $500 that includes one team, one set of branded cornhole boards, and an “Individual Team” for $150.
For spectators hoping to join in on the fun, multiple options are available, including:
- Individual Adult (15 years and older) – $60
- Individual Child (up to 14 years old) – $20
- Family Admission – $130 – 2 adult spectator tickets, 2 child spectator tickets
- Additional Child Spectator ticket $5 (up to 4 additional children)
