The Oak Park Inn Hotel was originally known as the Carlton Building.
The land was purchased in 1900, and the building was completed in 1904.
Throughout its history, the Carlton building has housed multiple businesses including the Desoto Health Department, Miss Gertrude's Dress Shop, the Postal Service, and historical photographers, as well as doctors and lawyers.
The building itself is on the National Historic Registry.
