Four of us for lunch. Short wait but worth it. Meatloaf was excellent and I'm fussy about meatloaf. Dessert took us forever to choose. Many, many excellent choices. Wheeler's is known for homemade pies and they did not disappoint. Accommodating wait staff.-CMB297
We stopped at Wheeler's for breakfast on our way to the Peace River for a canoe trip and fossil hunt. Great breakfast, grits, gravy, omelets, etc. Friendly, fast. Seems to be where the local ranchers, businessmen, and folks all meet. Went back in the afternoon for piece of their "famous" chocolate peanut butter pie. Wow! That is some great pie. Didn't try the others, but they all looked good. This is a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Looks like a 1920's lunch counter. Friendly people, and great food.-gmscoop
Had a nice healthy sandwich for lunch. We topped it off with t a piece of the most wonderful coconut cream pie I've ever eaten. A definite must on the list of places to eat when I come to Florida.-ssim1959
f you are in Arcadia, you shouldn't miss Wheeler's. My husband and I had dinner (well ... supper, really, since they close at 8 pm) there the other night and it was delicious! My husband had the fried chicken and it was the best fried chicken either one of us has ever had. He also had mashed potatoes w/ gravy and macaroni & cheese. Very tasty. I had a pork chop, collard greens (yummy!), fried okra, and sweet tea. Very good. The highlight was the desert - we had a slice each of chocolate peanut butter pie and vanilla peanut butter pie ... out of this world! I never knew such deliousness existed! And the price was right too.-Morel
No frills - just good food and delicious home-made pie! Definitely a place where the locals go. Due to popularity, sometimes you may have to put your nam on a wait list. Sometimes once seated, you may have to wait a few minutes to have your order taken and then a few minutes more to get your food. BUT when the food comes you will find it is a great value for the buck. Refills of coffee - no charge. Conversation with the locals - no charge. Daily breakfast specials like steak n eggs or pork chop and eggs. These are under $10.
Lunch may be ordered at 11:00, not before. Lots of "specials" on the board daily with plenty of sides to choose from including non-standard sides such as carrot-raisan salad.
Again - GO FOR THE PIE!!! (available all day)-Livinmydream
I am 75, this restaurant takes me back to when a restaurant was a restaurant, good plentiful food. the fried chicken find me better and i will pay you. Throw on the corn bread and black eyed peas, and i am a country boy again; everything is fresh like your mother made. Now the PIES, do not go unless you are going to have a large slice of one. on this your mom could not have done better. The place is over 80 years old, and is in an unique old town in the USA. You will feel so refreshed after your meal, and walk around with a big smile-FRANCOIS VATEL New York, NY
